The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a warning to drivers across Nigeria to remain careful due to the ongoing hazy weather that is impacting visibility on major roads.

In a statement released by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer, the FRSC noted that the dust haze, primarily caused by seasonal atmospheric changes, presents significant dangers to road users, particularly for drivers whose sight might be limited.

He cautioned that diminished visibility increases the possibility of traffic accidents if proper precautions are not taken.

In response to these conditions, FRSC's Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, highlighted the importance of exercising deliberate caution and adhering strictly to traffic regulations.

He pointed out that hazy conditions and dust clouds hinder drivers' visibility and their ability to react quickly, thus making high speeds particularly perilous.

He urged motorists to reduce their speed, adhere to speed limits, and practice defensive driving to avoid preventable crashes.

According to him, drivers should decrease their speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and ensure that headlights, tail lights, and brake lights are functional and actively used even during the day when visibility is compromised.

Mohammed also called on drivers to refrain from unsafe behaviors like improper overtaking, excessive speeding, and distractions while driving.

He recommended that drivers maintain clean windscreens and ensure their wipers are in good working order to improve visibility.

Specific advice was also given to commercial vehicle drivers, who were urged to put passenger safety first by avoiding unnecessary speeds and fully adhering to road safety rules during these hazy conditions.
