Fuel Scarcity Days Over, Nigerians Willing to Pay N10,000 Per Litre Gone – Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has implored Nigerians to maintain faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, asserting that the economic reforms currently underway are beginning to yield tangible positive outcomes, especially within the petroleum industry.

Reflecting on recent national developments, Akpabio pointed out that the country has moved away from periods of severe fuel shortages, where drivers would spend extensive hours in queues only to find no product available.

“Since our administration took office, we have not experienced the situation of vehicles lining up for kilometres to purchase petrol,” he stated. “There was a time when Nigerians were prepared to pay as much as N10,000 for a single litre, yet the commodity remained out of reach.”

He observed that the present ease of accessing petrol across the nation without the previous long queues is a testament to the effectiveness of government policies designed to liberalise the downstream sector and stimulate private investment.

The Senate President elaborated that the Tinubu administration's partnership with private investors has been instrumental in enhancing domestic refining capabilities, thereby reducing reliance on imported fuel and ensuring a stable supply chain.

“For the first time, we are achieving self-sufficiency, producing what we consume and consuming what we produce. We are even in a position to export to other nations,” he added.

Akpabio's commentary arrives amidst widespread public discussions concerning fuel pricing and the broader economic challenges confronting Nigerians, such as persistent inflation and increased cost of living pressures.

While acknowledging these public concerns, he maintained that the implemented reforms are essential measures for achieving long-term economic stability.

He encouraged citizens to adopt a forward-looking perspective regarding the government's policies, expressing conviction that their full benefits will become increasingly apparent over time.
