Galatasaray has secured their place in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, overcoming Juventus in a dramatic extra-time encounter that concluded with a 7-5 aggregate score. Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen netted the pivotal goal that ultimately sealed the Turkish club's advancement.

Entering the second leg with a commanding 5-2 lead from Istanbul, Galatasaray initially seemed poised to comfortably manage the tie. However, Juventus mounted a spirited challenge, even after playing for over an hour with a man disadvantage. Their comeback effort pushed the match into extra time, where Osimhen's late strike extinguished their hopes.

Juventus required a near-flawless performance to bridge the significant first- leg gap. They began the match with intent, and their efforts paid off in the 37th minute when Manuel Locatelli converted a penalty, reducing the aggregate deficit to 5-3.

The tide continued to turn in Juventus's favour after halftime. Despite Lloyd Kelly receiving a red card in the 48th minute following a video review that upgraded his second yellow to a straight dismissal, the Italian side pressed on.

Even with ten men, Juventus refused to yield. Federico Gatti scored from close range in the 70th minute, making it 5-4 on aggregate. Weston McKennie then rose to head in a third goal for Juventus, levelling the overall tie at 5-5.

Galatasaray, who had controlled significant portions of both matches, found themselves under immense pressure. However, they regrouped in extra time. The crucial moment arrived in the 105th minute when a defensive lapse allowed Osimhen to seize possession within the box. The Nigerian striker calmly slotted the ball through the goalkeeper's legs, restoring Galatasaray's aggregate lead at 6-5.

Juventus made a final push for an equaliser, but their resistance crumbled in the dying moments of extra time. Baris Alper Yilmaz completed a rapid counter- attack to seal a 7-5 aggregate victory for Galatasaray.

Osimhen's goal highlighted his increasing impact in European competitions this season. The strike added to his strong scoring record in the Champions League and confirmed Galatasaray's passage to the next stage.

This season, the Nigerian striker has found the net seven times in eight appearances in the Champions League.

His goal on Wednesday also marked a new milestone, making him Galatasaray's all-time leading foreign scorer in the Champions League with 13 goals.

In other UEFA Champions League fixtures, Real Madrid advanced with a 3-1 aggregate win over Benfica after a 2-1 second-leg victory. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain progressed 5-4 on aggregate following a 2-2 draw with AS Monaco.

Meanwhile, Atalanta secured a thrilling 4-3 aggregate triumph over Borussia Dortmund with a penalty in stoppage time. Other teams that have confirmed their spots in the next round include Atlético Madrid, Newcastle United, and Bayer Leverkusen.

The draw for the Round of 16 is scheduled for Friday, where Galatasaray will learn their next European opponent.
