Security agents in Gombe State have taken into custody two individuals suspected of supplying fuel to bandits active in adjacent communities of Bauchi State.
Sources within the security agencies disclosed that the suspects were seized on March 4, 2026, around 4:30 a.m. during a routine stop-and-search operation on the Kashere–Futuk Road in the Akko Local Government Area.
This operation was initiated following intelligence reports that highlighted how bandits causing havoc in parts of Bauchi State were sourcing their fuel from Kashere in Gombe State.
During the course of the operation, the team intercepted a red tinted Golf 3 vehicle with the registration GME 221 XA, which was discovered to be laden with 29 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The vehicle was being driven by 20-year-old Aliyu Usman from Futuk Village in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, who reportedly escaped the scene.
Two passengers, identified as Bello Abdullahi, aged 52, and Sulaiman Musa, aged 40, both hailing from Futuk Village in Alkaleri, were arrested at the location of the incident.
The detainees asserted that the fuel was purchased in Billiri, Gombe State.
Law enforcement officials have impounded the vehicle and the 29 jerrycans of fuel as evidence while investigations are ongoing to ascertain their role in the fuel supply to criminal elements.
Additionally, efforts are being made to locate the fleeing driver and to identify other members of the alleged supply network.
