Governor Ademola Adeleke has made a commitment to upgrade the road from Ikire junction to Apomu and Ikoyi by dualizing it.
This promise was made at the Apomu Day celebrations, which took place at ADC Grammar School in Apomu.
He stated that the proposed road project is intended to stimulate economic growth in the area.
Furthermore, the governor reiterated his administration's dedication to ensuring inclusive development throughout Osun State, with a particular focus on rural and semi-urban areas, which he considers crucial to building an equitable society.
Senator Lere Oyewumi, Deputy Minority Leader in the Senate and representative for the Osun West Senatorial District, spoke at the event, emphasizing that effective governance revolves around development. He expressed his readiness to support the progress of Apomu, acknowledging its significance in his district.
Jide Babalola, the President General of the Apomu Descendants Union National and Diaspora, highlighted that this year’s Apomu Day is not merely a celebration but a strategic initiative focusing on development, sustainability, and shared ownership within the community.
He shared the unveiling of a #250 million Community Endowment Fund aimed at supporting critical projects, which include the completion of a modern palace, youth empowerment, and improvements to community infrastructure. Babalola announced a donation of N25 million from 131 members of the union in support of these initiatives.
Others, such as Lanre Oladebo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ayedaade, Irewole and Isokan Federal Constituency, also made contributions, pledging an additional N25 million.
Goke Odetunde, the Chairman of Isokan Local Government Area, assured that the All Progressives Congress in Apomu would support the community's development.
Ajibola Olanrewaju, the former Minority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, was also present to show his support.
Oba Kayode Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu, expressed that Apomu Day serves as a dual celebration, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of his coronation. He expressed gratitude to the community members for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing the town’s development since his ascension to the throne.
He remarked, "Through personal commitment and collaborative efforts, we have made significant strides in Apomu. However, more remains to be achieved. I am confident that with your continued support, we can accelerate our development efforts."
Apomu Day is a significant cultural occasion that celebrates the town’s vibrant heritage, allowing community members to gather and reaffirm their identity.
The event featured colorful cultural displays and performances from renowned Fuji musician Saheed Osupa, who entertained the crowd enthusiastically.
