Governor Dauda Lawal, along with his family affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, has officially transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defection was revealed by Mummuni during an executive council meeting in Gusau, the capital of the state, on March 9.
Nuhu Anka, the Director-General of Media and Communication in the governor's office, also validated Lawal's move to the APC.
In a statement, Anka explained that the decision was made after a thorough consultation process involving stakeholders, political figures, and community leaders throughout the state.
Anka further elaborated that Lawal's shift to the ruling party was motivated by a desire for greater stability, progress, and sustainable development for Zamfara State.
"This decision was made following extensive discussions with political stakeholders and supporters, particularly given the persistent internal conflicts, leadership challenges, and unresolved structural issues within the PDP at both national and state levels. These problems have led to uncertainty and distractions that threaten effective governance and delivery of democratic benefits to the residents of Zamfara State," he stated.
He emphasized that it was essential to join a political group that fosters unity, stability, and stronger collaboration with the Federal Government for the advantage of the populace.
The pivotal conversations leading to this significant decision were conducted at the Government House in Gusau, coordinated by the Deputy Governor alongside senior government officials and major political stakeholders.
By joining the APC, the Governor underscored his dedication to fostering unity, enhancing security, accelerating development, and ensuring Zamfara State capitalizes on constructive interaction with the Federal Government.
