Governor Uba Sani has assured that his government, along with security agencies, will work towards the safe recovery of all individuals kidnapped in Kurmin Wali village this past Sunday.
The governor made this commitment during his visit on Wednesday, where he was accompanied by a significant group of senior government officials and heads of security departments to express condolences to the residents of Kurmin Wali.
He stated that he would not rest until the abducted individuals are returned safely to their families. “For the last two days, we have been cooperating with the relevant security forces, including the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and the National Security Adviser’s office, to expedite the return of our citizens taken from this critical community,” he revealed.
Governor Sani emphasized that the magnitude of the abduction is irrelevant, asserting, "Whether one person or one hundred have been kidnapped, it is the duty of the Kaduna State Government to safeguard the lives and property of its people.”
He condemned the politicization of the tragic event, stating, “We should avoid discussions centered on numbers or political motivations.”
“We are discussing the value of human life and dignity, and that is why we will do whatever it takes, collaborating with security mechanisms, to ensure the prompt return of our citizens from Kurmin Wali,” he added.
Additionally, Mr. Sani pledged that the Kaduna State Government would cover the medical expenses of those injured during the incident. He also mentioned plans to coordinate with Defence Minister Christopher Musa about establishing a military base nearby, considering the area’s closeness to known criminal activities.
He noted that while the military has managed to secure areas along the Kaduna- Abuja highway, bandits have relocated to the hinterlands, stressing that Kurmin Wali is adjacent to Rijana, which is notorious for banditry.
Moreover, Mr. Sani promised that the access road connecting Kurmin Wali to the highway would be constructed, instructing the Commissioner of Public Works to conduct feasibility studies before commencing the project.
The governor commended the citizens for their support, stating, "The people of Kurmin Wali, similar to other communities in Kaduna State, place complete trust in our governance.”
He insisted that the government protects all citizens regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds, unifying everyone in Kaduna State. "I'm pleased the residents of Kurmin Wali recognize this commitment without hesitation, welcoming us warmly despite their grief," he concluded.
Chief Dauda Titus, the Agwam Kufana, mentioned that he was attending church when he received alerts regarding the attack. “We chose to remain silent on the occurrence on Sunday due to the uncertainty about the number of those kidnapped,” he expressed.
Mr. Titus requested that the Kaduna State Government construct the access path to Kurmin Wali, noting that a journey that should take ten minutes took thirty. He also called for enhanced social amenities in the community.
Emmanuel Tabara, the National President of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), praised Governor Sani for his visit, stating, “You are the first governor to come here, and I commend your proactive leadership, especially amidst fluctuating information regarding the rescue of those abducted.”
He assured the governor of the community's support, urging unity in addressing such challenges.
