Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has voiced his strong disapproval of the explosion that rocked parts of Maiduguri on Monday evening, characterizing the incident as both cruel and cowardly.
Currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, Governor Zulum conveyed his deep regret over the incident, which he noted targeted innocent individuals during the sacred month of Ramadan.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor emphasized the need for enhanced vigilance and heightened security presence in public spaces, including places of worship.
"I am profoundly saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric and inhumane," Mr. Zulum stated.
He suggested that the recent increase in attacks might be connected to ongoing military operations against insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other known strongholds.
However, the governor assured the populace that military and security forces are actively managing the situation and have implemented robust measures to avert further security incidents in Maiduguri and across the state.
Governor Zulum urged residents to remain calm, continue their daily activities, and to promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to the relevant security agencies.
