Model Hailey Bieber and her husband, musician Justin Bieber, have heightened their legal dispute with TikTok influencer Julie Theis by sending her a cease- and-desist letter, accusing her of making false allegations regarding their marriage. According to a letter sourced by TMZ, the couple's attorney, Evan Spiegel, claimed that Theis posted 'outrageous false, fabricated, and defamatory' statements on her social media platforms. Spiegel asserted that Theis created TikTok and Instagram videos asserting that Justin and Hailey's relationship is abusive and linked to substance abuse, labeling these claims as 'highly damaging.'
The cease-and-desist letter insists that Theis remove her videos and cease any posts that imply the Biebers are involved in an abusive relationship. On Tuesday, Theis confirmed via TikTok that she had received the legal document. She defended her work as non-defamatory, indicating that her videos reflected 'clearly opinion-based commentary about relationship dynamics and power.'
In a response to TMZ, Theis expressed concern that the couple was attempting to silence her and infringe upon her rights to free speech. 'It’s extremely elitist to attempt to silence differing opinions simply because there is a disagreement. Disagreement is not defamation,' she stated, also noting that she had received death threats since the situation emerged.
So far, the Biebers have refrained from publicly addressing the issue, and their representatives have not provided immediate responses to inquiries seeking comment.
