Nigerian music artist Harrison Okiri, widely known as Harrysong, has formally responded to accusations made by his former spouse, Alexer Gopa.
Reports indicate that Gopa had, in a since-deleted video shared on her Instagram profile, alleged persistent harassment and unwarranted intrusion into her personal affairs by the singer.
She further claimed that Harrysong frequently visited her residence without prior notice.
Gopa also stated that she has been the sole caregiver for their two daughters since their separation in 2024.
The couple, who were married, reportedly held a significant wedding ceremony in Warri, Delta State, on March 27, 2021.
According to Gopa's account, the children attended school from her home and only saw their father on infrequent occasions.
She also revealed that she had temporarily handed over custody of the children, describing this as one of the most challenging decisions she has ever made, attributing it to years of pressure and emotional distress following her split from the singer.
Harrysong's Response
In reaction to these claims, the singer, aged 44, has, through his legal counsel Mary Iyanagbe of Mary M. Iyanagbe and Co., issued a formal cease-and- desist notice.
This legal document was disseminated via his Instagram page.
Through the notice, Harrysong has granted Gopa a two-week period to issue a public apology concerning the allegations.
The notice further stipulated that if Gopa fails to comply within this timeframe, Harrysong intends to pursue legal action seeking substantial monetary damages.
"We are solicitors and advocates of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, and our services have been retained by Mr Okiri Tara Harry, aka Harrysong and upon his specific instructions, we shall hereinafter refer to him as ‘Our Client.
"Failure to comply with our client’s demand within the aforementioned time, our client will not fail to seek monetary damages of N1, 000,000,000, (one billion Naira) as well as other equitable relief against you for your unlawful conduct and defamatory remarks. Let this serve as a notice. Let wise counsel prevail", the notice stated.
Background
This publication previously reported that the marital issues leading to their separation emerged in January 2024, following the circulation of WhatsApp messages involving Harrysong.
These messages allegedly showed the singer advising his ex-wife to terminate a pregnancy, expressing concern that she might have another girl.
Subsequently, the singer addressed the situation, urging the public to respect his family's privacy and stating that he decided to comment only after consulting with his family members.
