A 27-year-old bank worker has been found dead with her throat cut, following what was initially described as a robbery. The investigation has pointed to her husband, a chartered accountant, as the perpetrator.

Authorities reported that he committed the act after harboring persistent doubts about his wife's fidelity and tried to make it appear as though a robbery and murder had taken place.

The victim, identified as Mahak, was an employee of HDFC Bank located in Gurgaon, India. She married Anshul Dhawan, a resident of Hisar’s Sector 14 and a chartered accountant, under an arranged marriage setup on September 25, 2025.

The couple had only been married for five months before the tragic incident.

On February 14, 2026, which was Valentine's Day, the couple visited Hisar and stayed with family for the holiday. The incident unfolded the following evening, February 15, when they departed from Mahak's parental home in Hansi towards Gurugram. Approximately four hours later, Anshul contacted the police, claiming that unidentified assailants had ambushed their vehicle near Pahsaur village in the Badli area of Jhajjar district, killed Mahak, and then fled the scene.

Investigating officers discovered Mahak’s body outside their car on a dirt path approximately 100 meters from the Jhajjar-Badli road, her throat having been cut. However, inconsistencies in Anshul’s statement soon led authorities to question his account further. He was unable to provide descriptions of the alleged attackers and frequently altered his story.

Under rigorous interrogation and in the context of reconstructing the crime scene, Anshul eventually confessed to the crime. Law enforcement officials stated that the couple frequently quarreled over his unfounded suspicions concerning Mahak's character, which escalated during the drive. Anshul reportedly strangled her before slitting her throat with a pair of scissors, supposedly wearing gloves to avoid leaving behind any physical evidence. He later attempted to stage the scene to mimic a robbery.

Mahak’s father, Krishna Kathuria, had expressed doubts about his son-in-law's intentions from the beginning, and family members disclosed that Mahak was pregnant prior to her tragic death.

Anshul has been apprehended by the police, who are continuing their investigation into this harrowing case.
