A 12-year-old girl named Munachi Umenyi, who was abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been released from captivity.

Umenyi went missing on February 12, 2026, around 7:20 AM while being dropped off for school in the Challenge neighborhood of Ibadan.

The kidnappers, who arrived in a car without a registration plate, attacked and abducted her as she exited the vehicle that was transporting her to her private secondary school.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants discharged gunfire into the air and targeted the tires of the transport vehicle before fleeing with the young girl.

On Wednesday night, February 25, a family member informed Punch about her release.

“We are grateful to God for the safe return of Munachi Umenyi. We thank everyone for their prayers, support, and well-wishes,” the message from the family stated.

Reports suggest that a ransom was paid for her freedom, although specific details regarding the amount remain undisclosed.
