The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, traveled to Borno State on Tuesday in response to bomb blasts that claimed the lives of over 20 individuals and left more than 100 others injured.
While in Borno, the IGP engaged with victims who are currently receiving medical care, offering his heartfelt sympathies regarding the tragic events.
Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Borno State's Deputy Governor, Usman Umar Kadafur, who extended his congratulations on the IGP's recent appointment and praised his swift action in addressing the situation.
"Your presence immediately following such a grave incident signifies your dedication," remarked the deputy governor, describing the IGP's visit as an encouraging gesture for the local populace.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the IGP’s attendance at this critical moment highlights the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety and welfare of those living in Borno.
He reiterated the state government's intention to continue collaborating with security forces to restore peace in the region.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police for Borno State, CP Nazir Abdulmajeed, welcomed the IGP and expressed condolences to the victims and the community affected by the incident.
As part of his itinerary, the IGP visited the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital to meet with the victims of the explosion receiving treatment there.
Additionally, he inspected the Monday Market, the site of the blast, to evaluate the damage caused.
In a meeting with officers from the Borno State Police Command, the IGP urged them to increase their vigilance, enhance intelligence sharing, and remain proactive in carrying out their duties.
He reassured the community of the police force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, while encouraging citizens to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement.
The IGP also committed to providing officers with essential security equipment and logistical support to bolster their operational capabilities.
