The identity of the suspect involved in the shooting at a high school ice hockey game has been revealed, with initial images showing Robert Dorgan, 56, believed to be the assailant who discharged his weapon during the event on February 16, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and causing critical injuries to three others.
Dorgan, who also identifies as Roberta Esposito, launched the attack at the arena located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, while multiple local school matches were taking place on that afternoon.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves confirmed the shooter's identity, stating, "We have identified the person, the suspect, by a birth name, the birth name was Robert Dorgan. We have also learned that the person does go by the name of Roberta, and uses a last name of Esposito."
Footage captured during a livestream of the game displays the chaotic scene as both spectators and players sought shelter on the floor in response to the gunfire.
In shared online videos, players can be observed escaping the box, discarding their skates, and jumping over the rink barriers to reach safety in the changing room. Among the victims is a young girl, and authorities have suggested that the shooting may have roots in a family dispute.
Reports indicate that Dorgan's wife and three children were involved in the incident, and he reportedly took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Dorgan was known to be the father of a senior at North Providence High School.
