A recently released video captures the incident when a wheel fell from a British Airways aircraft shortly after it took off.
The incident occurred with the rear wheel of a plane traveling from Las Vegas to London Heathrow, as it ascended in the air.
The live stream documented the wheel detaching from the back of the landing gear as the plane departed Harry Reid International Airport at approximately 9:10 PM local time on January 26.
The cause of the wheel's detachment remains unclear, though it landed on the airport grounds in Nevada.
Despite this alarming occurrence, the British Airways pilot proceeded with the nine-hour flight to London and managed a safe landing at Heathrow, arriving 27 minutes ahead of schedule.
According to flightradar24, the Airbus A350-1000's main landing gear is equipped with six wheels arranged in three sets.
The wheel that fell from flight BA274 in Las Vegas was identified as the outermost rear wheel of the right main landing gear.
One of the significant concerns regarding a falling tire involves potential hazards to people and property underneath; however, no injuries or damages were reported in Las Vegas.
The aircraft has since been grounded for thorough inspection and repairs, as reported by the aviation news outlet AIRLIVE.
In a statement, British Airways emphasized, "Safety and security underpin everything we do, and we’re cooperating with authorities during their investigations."
Harry Reid International Airport acknowledged the incident, stating it was aware of the issue involving a British Airways aircraft that departed and landed safely in London without any further incidents.
