Independent Newspapers Limited has revealed its intention to celebrate its 2026 Annual Awards on Saturday, April 18, at the Eko Hotel and Suites located in Victoria Island, Lagos, in honor of its 25th anniversary.
Mr. Yemi Adebisi, who chairs the Awards Committee, stated in an announcement that the forthcoming Silver Jubilee edition will revolve around the theme "Gamechangers, Breaking Barriers & Shaping Tomorrow."
He further mentioned that the awards will comprise approximately 25 categories, each featuring three nominees, encompassing various sectors including business and governance within Nigeria’s economy.
Prominent categories will include Man of the Year, Financial Sector Regulator of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award.
Adebisi emphasized a notable change from previous formats, indicating that the general public will be allowed to partake in the voting process.
He clarified that nominations will be evaluated by a jury comprising the Board of Editors, along with independent panels and esteemed Nigerians to uphold integrity, fairness, and transparency in the process, concluding with a public announcement of the final shortlist.
According to him, the nomination period will commence on January 15 and conclude on February 12, 2026, while the shortlist will be revealed on March 31.
Public voting is expected to take place from March 31 until April 14, with the awards ceremony set for April 18. Nominees will be assessed based on criteria such as measurable impact, innovation, leadership, sustainability, contributions to national growth, and ethical practices.
Moreover, he noted that eligibility for nominations extends to Nigerian citizens and organizations operating within Nigeria, provided their accomplishments occurred or had substantial influence in 2025.
Organizations are required to be officially registered and functioning in the country, while public officials must be currently in service or have served within the relevant timeframe.
