INEC Unveils Final Candidates List for Osun Governorship Election, PDP and LP Absent

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the conclusive list of candidates for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026. Notably, neither the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor the Labour Party (LP) is represented on this list.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed the final roster of candidates for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, which is set for August 8, 2026.

Both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) are notably absent from this list.

INEC announces candidates for Osun governorship election

A statement released on Friday by Musa Olurode, the INEC public relations officer in Osun, indicated that candidates from 14 political parties have been authorized to take part in the election.

The political parties cleared for the election include Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party (APP), Boot Party (BP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP). Olurode emphasized that the release of the final candidates list is in accordance with the timeline and activities laid out by the commission ahead of the election. He stated last month that only 14 parties successfully conducted their primaries and submitted the names and details of their candidates, along with their running mates, by the deadline stipulated by INEC.
