In a shocking event, unidentified individuals stormed the Christ Crusaders’ Deliverance Ministries located in the Akute-Odo community, within the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, leading to the gruesome killing of the church's security guard, affectionately referred to as Baba Iwo.

According to a resident named Ajoke, the violent act took place around 1 AM on Monday, February 10, 2026, during a time when there was no electricity supply in the vicinity. She explained that Baba Iwo, who was stationed outside the church, grew suspicious upon noticing unusual movements in the area.

Holding a cutlass, he informed another security personnel from a nearby location of his intention to investigate the situation inside the church. When he did not return after a considerable delay, the other guard began to feel uneasy.

Peeking through the church's entrance, he discovered Baba Iwo lying incapacitated on the altar and spotted a person, suspected to be one of the attackers, hiding behind a door, prompting him to raise an alarm.

Another local, identified as Moses, reported that the assailants seemed to be trying to decapitate the victim but were interrupted by the prompt actions of local youths who intervened during the attack.

"If you see his head, the neck was nearly severed. I think they attempted to cut it off several times, but for the rapid intervention of the youths, they would have succeeded," he stated.

While the precise number of attackers remains uncertain, authorities confirmed that one suspect was captured attempting to escape and was subsequently handed over to the Ajuwon Police Division.

An individual named Dare, involved in the capture, mentioned that two residents suffered injuries during the scuffle. "The capture was quite challenging. Although we heard there were three attackers, only one was caught while trying to flee. We pursued him, shouting 'thief, thief.'

“When he realized he might be caught, he began shouting 'thief' as well until we finally subdued him near the tollgate. He managed to injure two of us with the large cutlass he wielded," Dare recounted.

Another witness, named Tife, claimed that the captured suspect made unsettling remarks during questioning, suggesting that their activities involved decapitating individuals. She emphasized the need for a thorough police investigation, especially to verify the involvement of other suspects as indicated by the captured individual, and to analyze the church's CCTV footage for more information.

Tife claimed the suspect damaged streetlights while fleeing.

"As he ran, he was breaking street bulbs to avoid being recognized. A complete investigation is crucial, and the church must provide its CCTV recordings," she urged.

Babaseyi Oluseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more detailed inquiry.

He also stated that the body of the deceased had been released to his family per Islamic traditions, noting that investigations are ongoing.

"The body was handed over to the family because they adhere to the Islamic faith. The investigation is still in progress, and we cannot speculate at this stage. The inquiry will reveal all pertinent details," Oluseyi explained.

He added that some parts of the investigation would remain confidential until it is concluded.
