Law enforcement has commenced a probe after four ambulances affiliated with a Jewish community organization were destroyed by fire in north London, with officials labeling the incident as a suspected antisemitic hate crime.
The Metropolitan Police verified that the fire took place in Golders Green, announcing: “An investigation has been initiated following the torched ambulances belonging to the Jewish Community Ambulance service in Golders Green.”
“The police are present at the location, and this arson incident is currently being regarded as an antisemitic hate crime.”
The ambulances were operated by Hatzola, a volunteer-run, non-profit group that provides emergency medical services to the Jewish population.
According to the London Fire Brigade, six fire engines and 40 firefighters were dispatched after emergency calls were received at 0140 GMT.
“Explosions from several cylinders on the ambulances shattered windows in a nearby apartment building. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.”
Firefighters successfully contained the fire by 0306 GMT, averting further damage to the densely populated neighborhood.
The incident has surfaced amid a concerning trend of escalating attacks directed at Jewish people and institutions worldwide, a surge tied to the recent conflict following Hamas’s actions that sparked the Gaza war.
In the UK, authorities have documented a notable rise in antisemitic activities since the onset of the conflict, causing alarm among community organizations and security officials.
