Iran has allegedly presented an 'ultimatum' to hotel proprietors in both Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, cautioning that accommodating US military members may turn their venues into valid military targets.
This warning comes in light of reports suggesting that US personnel have been seeking shelter in local hotels following missile assaults from Iran and related militant activities that have impacted American military bases throughout the Middle East. The order is effective immediately for any establishment that is harboring foreign troops, as reported by Fars and cited by Xinhua.
It has been claimed that US forces are utilizing civilian locations, including a logistics hub near the old airport in Beirut, the Republic Palace in Damascus, and various luxury hotels such as Four Seasons and Sheraton. Recently, some US Marines were relocated to Djibouti International Airport via Istanbul and Sofia.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, reiterated this threat on Thursday through X, accusing American soldiers of abandoning Gulf Cooperation Council bases to find refuge in hotels and offices, thereby endangering Gulf citizens by using them as 'human shields.' He insisted that hotels ought to deny them shelter, drawing parallels with American policies that discourage booking hotels in high-risk areas.
The rise in tension stems from the joint airstrikes conducted by Israel and the United States on February 28, which resulted in the death of Iran's then- Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with top military officials and civilians in various Iranian cities. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone strikes against Israeli and US military sites while intensifying control over the Strait of Hormuz to restrict access to involved vessels.
