Israel's defense ministry declared a "preemptive strike" against Iran on Saturday, as sirens rang out in Jerusalem, warning the populace of a severe threat.
"The State of Israel has initiated a preemptive attack on Iran," stated an official announcement.
"Defense Minister Israel Katz has declared an immediate and exceptional state of emergency across the nation," according to a statement released by his ministry.
AFP journalists reported hearing two significant explosions in Tehran on Saturday morning, with thick smoke visible rising from the center and eastern regions of the Iranian capital.
Fars news agency noted, "The nature of the explosions indicates that this could be a missile strike," although further information was not immediately available.
In response, Israel has swiftly restricted its airspace for civilian aircraft.
Transport Minister Miri Regev reported, "In light of recent security developments, the Minister of Transportation has instructed the Director of the Israel Civil Aviation Authority to prohibit civilian flights over the State of Israel."
