Israel has ramped up its military engagements in southern Lebanon, indicating intentions to broaden ground operations after executing precise strikes on important infrastructure, such as bridges.

The Israel Defense Forces declared that its offensive against Hezbollah is moving into a larger phase, with plans being made for coordinated land advances along with ongoing airstrikes. Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir characterized the operation as active and likely to be extended, underscoring that it is being executed according to a pre-arranged strategy.

Earlier, Israeli troops bombarded several bridges, including one in proximity to the city of Tyre, which was seen engulfed in heavy smoke following the attack. As reported by Lebanese state media, the bridge sustained significant damage from multiple assaults, rendering it non-functional. Further strikes were reported across adjacent locales.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned these attacks, labeling them as a serious escalation and an infringement on national sovereignty. He cautioned that assaults on crucial infrastructure, such as bridges over the Litani River, could indicate the onset of a more extensive ground invasion. He also highlighted that these actions might sever southern Lebanon from the rest of the nation.

Since early March, the conflict has intensified, characterized by continuous skirmishes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. Israel has executed numerous airstrikes and limited ground incursions, while Hezbollah has retaliated with rocket fire directed at northern Israel and border areas.

Israeli authorities have reported sustained efforts to dismantle what they describe as Hezbollah structures in southern Lebanon. Alongside bridge attacks, there have been accounts of demolitions in border towns and airborne assaults in other regions, including the Bekaa Valley.

Officials in Lebanon have indicated that the ongoing conflict has led to casualties and mass displacement, with over a million individuals impacted in the recent weeks. Additionally, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for various strikes on Israeli military sites, particularly close to the border.

Israeli officials contend that the destruction of bridges and other infrastructure is intended to obstruct the movement of militants and armaments across southern Lebanon. The Litani River, situated roughly 30 kilometers north of the Israeli frontier, has become a focal area in these military initiatives.

As tensions persist, both parties continue their exchanges of fire, heightening concerns about the risk of a more extensive and enduring conflict in the area.
