Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that he has accepted an invitation from US President Donald Trump to join the US-led Board of Peace, which has been established to oversee the rebuilding efforts in Gaza.
In his statement, Netanyahu confirmed his participation as a member of the board, indicating that it will comprise various world leaders. However, further details regarding the board’s organization or its timeline have not been revealed.
This declaration follows shortly after Netanyahu’s office expressed opposition to the structure of the board when it was first introduced by Trump as part of an initiative aimed at resolving the conflict in Gaza.
At that time, Netanyahu’s representatives mentioned that the board's formation was announced without prior consultation with Israel and contended that its framework was at odds with Israeli policy.
Trump has characterized the Board of Peace as a crucial tool for restoring stability in Gaza after the conflict. Nonetheless, the initiative has faced scrutiny and apprehension from numerous countries regarding its scope, membership composition, and its ties to existing international institutions.
