On Wednesday, airstrikes carried out by Israeli forces resulted in the deaths of at least 11 Palestinians, which included children and journalists, in various locations throughout Gaza, as reported by local medical sources. This escalation severely jeopardizes a ceasefire that had been in place for three months in the war-torn region.

Palestinian health officials indicated that an Israeli airstrike targeted and killed three journalists who were en route to film a displaced persons camp in central Gaza. Additionally, another incident involving Israeli tank shelling resulted in the deaths of three individuals, among them a 10-year-old boy. Moreover, medics confirmed that two people, including a 13-year-old boy, lost their lives due to separate Israeli firing incidents in Khan Younis located in southern Gaza.

The Gaza health ministry stated that the total death toll for the day reached at least 11 due to further Israeli assaults across the territory.

In response to the journalistic incident, Israel’s military claimed that its troops had identified “multiple suspects utilizing a Hamas-affiliated drone” in central Gaza, which prompted a targeted strike due to the perceived threat to its military personnel. The military has not yet addressed the other reported incidents.

During recent incidents in Gaza, Israeli military actions reportedly killed 11, including journalists and children.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate noted that the journalists who lost their lives were on a mission to document the humanitarian situation faced by civilians in the displacement camps.

However, it could not verify the presence of a drone during the incident. Local journalists remarked that their work was funded by the Egyptian Committee responsible for overseeing relief activities in Gaza, a claim which was partially validated by an Egyptian security official who stated that the vehicle belonged to this committee.

The Committee to Protect Journalists has reported that since the conflict began, 206 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza, highlighting that Israel has not conducted any formal investigations nor assigned accountability for these deaths.

Despite assertions from the Israeli military that it targets only military personnel and installations, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate suggests that the actual number of journalists killed might exceed 260.

Following the ceasefire agreement, both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of violating the terms, amidst the backdrop of ongoing strife that has devastated Gaza and led to a critical humanitarian crisis. There are still unresolved issues related to a 20-point peace initiative proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump, which remains stagnant at its initial execution stage.

The initial phase of the ceasefire exhibited a cessation of major hostilities, some withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the release of hostages by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian detainees and prisoners. Future phases may encompass the disarmament of Hamas, further Israeli withdrawals, and the establishment of an internationally supported administration to assist in the reconstruction of this heavily populated area; however, no specific timeline has been established.

Since the ceasefire came into effect, it has been reported that over 460 Palestinians and three Israeli soldiers have died in related confrontations. The Israeli air and ground campaign in Gaza was initiated following a cross- border offensive led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, which resulted in approximately 1,200 fatalities, according to Israeli reports.

Current figures from Gazan health authorities indicate that at least 71,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since the outbreak of hostilities.
