Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo has countered claims regarding her supposed appointment as a brand ambassador for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). This follows her recent video in which she commended the upgrades at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The viral video featured Ojo showcasing what she perceived as substantial improvements in the airport's infrastructure. However, her remarks were met with criticism on social media, with some accusing her of aligning with government entities that she previously took issue with, particularly during the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.

Additionally, the actress has come under the spotlight again due to past allegations, including accusations of tax evasion and inappropriate currency use, igniting further debate about her motivations behind praising a governmental body.

In response to the swirling rumors, Ojo clarified on Sunday that she had neither received compensation nor a formal offer from FAAN. She expressed surprise at the claims of her becoming an ambassador, affirming that her video was shared voluntarily after obtaining permission to film at the airport while working on a movie.

In her social media statements, Ojo emphasized her intentions, asserting, "FAAN is changing for the better in numerous ways. The renovations at MMIA Lagos Terminal 1, along with the beauty of Terminal 2, and the exceptional service by their protocol team make me proud of my country."

She further explained that FAAN officials encouraged her to help promote the ongoing upgrades and reiterated that her actions were made without any formal financial arrangement. "When I observe such development, I speak up not out of obligation but because I genuinely want the best for my nation," Ojo stated. "They asked me to assist in spreading the word once I had my filming permission. I did this for free without any contract or payment."

In response to accusations of exploiting publicity for access to the airport, Ojo contended that her professional fees greatly surpass any costs associated with gaining filming permission. She highlighted that her admiration was rooted in the observable improvements at the airport rather than any political endorsement. "My loyalty lies with my country. Acknowledging progress is essential; remaining silent achieves nothing."

Regarding collaboration with political parties, she affirmed her willingness to partner with any entity focused on the nation's advancement. Meanwhile, Olubunmi Kuku, FAAN's Managing Director, also dispelled rumors of Ojo's ambassadorial role, asserting that she was encouraged solely to promote the ongoing upgrades while filming.

Kuku stated, "FAAN has not awarded any contract to Iyabo Ojo, nor is she an ambassador. Her involvement was merely to enhance awareness around our improvements, without any financial implications."
