Senator Jonah David Jang, the former governor of Plateau State, has declared his support for the Chief Raymond Dabo State Working Committee, referring to him as the legitimate chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau.
Jang's statement comes in response to a recent factional congress within the party that appointed a new executive committee loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
This factional gathering led to the election of Peter Tongshep as its new state chairman last Tuesday, a decision strongly opposed by the Dabo-led wing of the PDP.
In a press release issued on Monday through his media advisor, Comrade Clinton Garuba, Jang condemned the recent congress that resulted in Tongshep's election as a “kangaroo exercise” driven by self-serving individuals in collaboration with outside undemocratic influences intended to undermine the party.
Jang emphasized that the State Working Committee, headed by Chief Dabo, was properly elected during a well-organized congress that was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and fully adhered to the PDP's constitution.
He asserted, "There has never been a fracture in the State Working Committee. For the law and true supporters of the PDP, there was no justification for holding any congress. Consequently, all actions taken during the so-called congress are considered null and void and of no consequence."
Acknowledging the ongoing difficulties faced at the national level of the party, Jang noted that he and other PDP leaders have been engaged in extensive discussions in Abuja over the last two weeks to find solutions for unity and advancement within the party.
He urged all dedicated party members in Plateau to stay united, focused, and committed to positive dialogue instead of fostering division.
Jang also called on “agents of distraction” within the state to cease actions that exacerbate tensions, stressing the importance of prioritizing unity during this critical time.
