Jet2 Flight Diverts to Brussels Following Midair Brawl Over Alleged Racist Remarks

A Jet2 aircraft journeying from Antalya, Turkey to Manchester was compelled to change its course and land in Brussels due to a violent confrontation between two passengers that erupted over purported racist comments.

The altercation took place at an altitude of about 30,000 feet, with videos recorded in the cabin illustrating the two men exchanging blows in the aisle as fellow passengers expressed their shock and horror. Onlookers described the event as chaotic, noting that blood and teeth were reportedly strewn across the floor.

Witness testimonies suggest that the conflict ignited when one individual attempted to snatch the phone of another passenger, which was playing music at a high volume. This quickly escalated into a physical clash, alarming families with children, elderly passengers, and those with special needs who were on board.

It has been alleged by witnesses that one of the men, who appeared intoxicated, had been making derogatory remarks toward nearby Pakistani passengers prior to the fight. He was also reported to have acted aggressively towards flight attendants during a dispute over cigarette usage.

A passenger described the turmoil as one of the most distressing experiences they had encountered while traveling.

According to a witness, the aggressive man was conscious of his surroundings and fully aware of his behavior, which included direct confrontation and intimidation of the Pakistani passengers. The witness expressed that the man displayed a pattern of overt racism towards them.

Jet2 acknowledged that flight LS896 was diverted due to the disruptive actions of the two passengers involved. In an official statement, the airline reported, "Flight LS896 from Antalya to Manchester was diverted to Brussels yesterday, due to the appalling behaviour of two disruptive passengers."

They further stated, "The individuals were removed from the flight by police in Brussels, and the flight continued to its destination. Both passengers will receive a lifetime ban from our airline. We also intend to recover expenses incurred due to this diversion. As a family-friendly airline, we implement a zero-tolerance policy against disruptive behavior, and we apologize to our other customers and crew who had to witness this incident."

Upon arrival in Brussels, law enforcement boarded the plane and took the two passengers into custody before the flight resumed its journey to Manchester.
