Jos Attack Claims Three Lives in Fresh Violence

Armed assailants have tragically claimed the lives of three individuals and left one person injured in the Gyel Nyango Community, located within Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. The violent incident occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Three individuals have been killed and one person sustained injuries following an attack by armed individuals in the Gyel Nyango Community of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State. The incident took place on Friday, April 3, 2026.

Reports indicate that the assailants entered the community and began shooting indiscriminately before fleeing into the darkness. The attack has reportedly heightened tension within the area, with locals also suffering injuries.

Rwang Tengwong, the spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, confirmed the assault on Saturday, labelling it as yet another unprovoked attack on innocent residents.

"Just yesterday night, some persons came to Gyel community, which resulted in the death of three persons," Tengwong stated, lamenting the ongoing violence against rural communities.

He issued an appeal for the security forces to swiftly capture those responsible and bring them to justice. Tengwong also advised residents in rural areas across Jos South, Riyom, and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas to maintain vigilance.

Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, verified the incident, explaining that it happened around 9:20 pm as the victims were returning from a mining site. He confirmed that the State Command promptly dispatched a patrol team, led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division Bukuru, to the scene.

Alabo added that the injured victim was quickly transported to a hospital and is currently receiving medical attention.

The Police Public Relations Officer conveyed that the State Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, expressed profound sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and to the wider community, describing the event as a "senseless loss of lives."

Furthermore, the commissioner has ordered the immediate enforcement of a statewide prohibition on night grazing and night mining activities. Additionally, there is a complete ban on commercial motorcycles within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis.

Alabo also announced a ban on commercial tricycles, commonly known as Keke- Napep, effective Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Residents have been urged to adhere to these directives and to avoid unnecessary movement, especially during nighttime hours.
