Three individuals have been killed and one sustained injuries in a new assault in Nyamgo Gyel, located in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. This incident further intensifies worries regarding the escalating security challenges within the state.

The deceased, identified as Luka Sandu Pam, 36, Samuel Davou, 38, and Deme Saidu, 35, were reportedly on their way home from Gero on a motorcycle around 7 p.m. on Friday when they were caught in an ambush.

The attack, which took place on Good Friday, has plunged the community into a state of shock and grief.

According to accounts from those present, the victims were part of a larger group of approximately 15 youths returning from a mining site when the ambush occurred.

Dung Davou, the Youth Leader of Gyel, stated that the group suddenly came under fire from suspected armed individuals, prompting everyone to disperse. He noted that tragically, three members of their community lost their lives, and he appealed for immediate intervention from the authorities.

Solomon Dalyop, the Chairman of the Berom Youth Moulder Association, characterized the killings as a stark indication of the worsening security situation in Plateau State.

Standing near the deceased, he expressed his sorrow, stating, "These young men went to observe Good Friday and were en route home when they were ambushed and killed. This is truly heartbreaking."

Dalyop also revealed that community leaders had recently participated in a security discussion with members of the Fulani community at the Nigerian Army's Sector 2 Command in Jos South, concerning unusual movements observed in certain areas.

"We were alerted to suspicious activities in these locales, and we subsequently advised our residents to remain vigilant, particularly during the night," he added.

He cautioned that the situation could worsen without prompt action, alleging that armed groups have established a presence in forested areas across parts of the state.

"If decisive measures are not taken, this might just be the precursor to increased terror. Militants are taking over our bush areas," he warned, lamenting the insufficient security presence.

He pointed out that only the police responded after the incident, facilitating the transfer of the injured survivor to a medical facility.

Community members have voiced demands for enhanced security deployments and greater vigilance as arrangements commence for the victims' funerals.

Attempts to obtain an official confirmation from Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Command, were unsuccessful as he could not be reached for comment by press time.

These recent fatalities occur amidst a series of violent events in Plateau State, reigniting concerns about the safety of residents and the efficacy of current security operations.
