Nottingham Forest Women have announced a significant move as they secure the signing of Nigerian striker Joy Omewa from the well-established Danish club Fortuna Hjørring.

The club communicated this news via their official channels, confirming that the 23-year-old forward has joined on a permanent basis, with the contract extending until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Omewa brings a wealth of experience to Forest after an impressive stint in Denmark, where she played five productive seasons with Fortuna Hjørring, recognized as one of the leading teams in Scandinavian women's football.

In her time in the Kvindeligaen, she made a mark by scoring over 50 goals, asserting herself as a key player in Fortuna’s offensive strategies.

Beyond her goal-scoring abilities, Omewa was pivotal in helping Fortuna Hjørring maintain their stature in the domestic league. She was instrumental in securing two Danish Women's Cup titles and also contributed to the club's remarkable league and cup double during the 2024/25 season.

Her remarkable performance did not go unrecognized, as she was honored with the Kvindeligaen Player of the Season award, a testament to her consistent influence and exceptional skill on the pitch.

Omewa's career began in Nigeria with Confluence Queens, where her talent began to shine. In April 2021, she made the leap to European football by signing with Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93) in Denmark, and her journey took off from there.

On the international stage, she has been an integral part of Nigeria's youth setups, represented the Under-17 and Under-20 teams, and made her senior debut for the Super Falcons last year. Notably, she played a crucial role in Nigeria's victory over Benin, which ensured the country's qualification for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The acquisition of Omewa marks a clear intention from Nottingham Forest Women to enhance their competitiveness. She joins the club not just as a young talent, but as a seasoned player eager to achieve new heights. With her track record of success, Joy Omewa steps into her new role ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead for the club as they strive for excellence in English women's football.
