Spanish musician Julio Iglesias has firmly denied the accusations of abuse made by two former domestic workers who have lodged a criminal complaint against him, labeling the allegations as untrue in a social media post shared late on Thursday.

The prosecutor's office of Spain's Supreme Court has announced that it has initiated preliminary proceedings regarding the complaint, which a human rights organization claims involves human trafficking for forced labor and servitude, sexual abuse, and infringements of labor rights.

"I deny having abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman. These accusations are entirely false and bring me significant sadness," stated Iglesias, 82, in a signed message posted on his Instagram account.

Iglesias, recognized as one of the best-selling Latin music artists globally with over 300 million records sold in 14 different languages, mentioned that he has found "great comfort" in the supportive messages he has received.

The complaint was filed by the rights organization Women’s Link Worldwide on January 5, representing the two women, referred to as Rebeca and Laura, following a three-year investigation conducted by US network Univision and the Spanish publication elDiario.es.

The organization characterized the complainants as young Latin American women "in vulnerable situations who were heavily reliant on their incomes due to their economic and social circumstances."

Reports indicate that the women worked at Iglesias' residences in the Caribbean, specifically in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, for ten months during 2021.

Details regarding the case remain undisclosed as it is subject to confidentiality regulations.
