The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intervention Ministry located in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna, has distributed bags of rice, maize, and other food supplies to Muslims, Tsangaya Islamic schools, as well as some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in anticipation of the Ramadan fasting period.

Leading the distribution event at the Kano Road Central Mosque in Kaduna, the General Overseer of the church, Yohanna Buru, stated that this effort is intended to foster peace and promote interfaith relations within the community.

Buru also highlighted that the church has been donating food items to support underprivileged Muslims and Tsangaya schools across five northern states for the past two decades, assisting them in observing the 30-day Ramadan fasting with greater ease.

In addition to rice and maize, the church provides items such as prayer mats and plastic kettles annually. He encouraged the beneficiaries to use the fasting period as an opportunity to pray for peace, stability, and an end to the prevailing insecurity and economic difficulties facing the nation.

“As the costs of goods continue to rise, we engaged about 50 volunteer pastors and imams to conduct a week-long sensitization campaign aimed at encouraging traders to lower the prices of food items throughout Ramadan,” Buru noted.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the church also plays a role in facilitating the release of some Muslim inmates each year, enabling them to celebrate Ramadan with their families.

Buru thanked a Muslim philanthropist, Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, for her contributions to widows and orphans during festive periods like Christmas and New Year, describing her actions as an illustration of genuine respect among different faiths.

He extended his best wishes to the Muslim community for a peaceful Ramadan, urging all to pray for unity in the nation.

In a show of appreciation, the leader of the Association of Persons with Disabilities in Kaduna State, Mallam Hassan Lawal, praised the church for its support, calling on affluent Muslims to reach out and assist those in need during the fasting season.

Similarly, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, the state leader of the Visually Impaired Association, commended the church for its consistent provision of food grains over the years, praying for blessings for the organizers.

Imam Ibrahim Musa, speaking on behalf of Tsangaya schools, expressed gratitude to the church for its intervention and appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to follow suit in supporting the needy.

Additionally, Imam Ilyasu, the Murshid of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, lauded the initiative as commendable and encouraged wealthy Muslims to fulfill their duty of giving zakat to those in need, especially during Ramadan.
