Kaduna State has revived its Christian pilgrimage programme after an 11-year suspension, with the government set to sponsor 50 intending pilgrims for the spiritual journey.
The programme's return was officially marked during the 2025 orientation event and has been met with positive reception from Christian communities, who view it as a symbol of fairness, equity, and inclusive governance.
Jimami Bako, the Head of Service in Kaduna State, lauded Governor Uba Sani for reintroducing the initiative, emphasizing that the decision highlights a leadership commitment to spiritual development alongside physical and economic advancement.
Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, stated that this endeavour demonstrates the administration's dedication to justice and inclusivity. He encouraged the pilgrims to pray for lasting peace, unity, and prosperity for Kaduna State and the nation.
The recommencement of the pilgrimage scheme offers renewed hope to the beneficiaries, enhances trust in the government, and contributes to fostering interfaith relations within the state.
The last Christian pilgrimage sponsored by Kaduna State took place in November 2014, when 567 pilgrims travelled from the state to Israel.
At that time, the then Governor Ramalan Yero had urged the pilgrims to represent Nigeria positively during their time in the Holy Land.
