The Kano State government is joining forces with leaders of the Yoruba community to support its endeavors in fostering lasting peace and harmonious relations with other ethnic groups in the state.
During an engagement with ethnic stakeholders, which took place on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this appeal.
Waiya elaborated that the primary focus of the meeting was to provide the government an opportunity to connect with various stakeholders, groups, and organizations that can enhance the ongoing initiatives of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, specifically towards restoring security and addressing various security threats and challenges facing the state.
While addressing the Yoruba community, which was represented by the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese, the commissioner expressed his confidence that the historically positive relationship between the Yoruba community and the people of Kano would contribute to fostering a secure and safe environment.
He called on individuals from the South-West region to back governmental projects, programs, and policies aimed at enhancing the living standards of residents, irrespective of their origins.
Comrade Waiya stated, “Without proper security and a collaborative relationship, significant progress remains unattainable; therefore, everyone must contribute to fortifying the security framework.
“The government is committed to its duty of safeguarding the lives and properties of everyone residing in the state, and your cooperation is crucial since security is a shared responsibility.”
He expressed gratitude to the Yoruba community for responding to the invitation and assured them that further development opportunities would arise in Sabon Gari, alongside ongoing infrastructure projects such as the reconstruction of New, Sarkin Yaki, and Zungeru roads.
In reply, Ambassador Murtala Alimi Otisese acknowledged Governor Yusuf's leadership style, remarking its inclusivity and non-discriminatory nature, noting that projects were extended to areas populated by residents who are not originally from the state.
The Oba assured the commissioner of the Yoruba community's full support for the initiative and expressed his intention to organize a meeting among Yoruba stakeholders to explore effective ways to assist the government in accomplishing its security goals.
