Aminu Abdussalam, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, has officially resigned from his position.

This announcement was made on Friday through a statement from Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, who serves as the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Prior to his resignation, the Kano State House of Assembly had initiated impeachment procedures against Abdussalam.

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Kano rejected Abdussalam's request to halt the impeachment process.

In the statement, the Kwankwasiyya Movement communicated, "We wish to formally inform the general public, the residents of Kano State, and the nation that the Deputy Governor has resigned from office."

The movement explained that Abdussalam's decision was made in consideration of the public interest and the need for stable governance in the state, despite the difficulties associated with this choice.

The statement noted, "Recent developments have significantly affected the full execution of the responsibilities linked to the office of the Deputy Governor. Therefore, it is essential to allow the office to operate effectively in service to the public."

Additionally, the message emphasized that this resignation should not be viewed as a concession of the allegations made against him by the state assembly.

"To clarify, his resignation in no way represents an admission of guilt regarding the allegations from the Kano State House of Assembly. The Deputy Governor remains innocent and believes that his previous service and performance speak to his integrity and dedication to the people," it included.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement characterized the resignation as a move towards statesmanship that aims to maintain peace and avert political strife that could obstruct governance and progress within the state.

Furthermore, it was disclosed that Abdussalam intends to devote his efforts towards strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

"The Deputy Governor is committed to investing more time and resources in the Kwankwasiyya Movement, focusing on enhancing its frameworks, developing strategies, and engaging in vital political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections," the statement concluded.

The movement called on its supporters and the citizens of Kano State to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to the principles of good governance and democracy, indicating that more information would be shared soon.
