Dozens of followers of the Qadiriyya Sufi order held a Salatul Ghaib (funeral prayer in absentia) for the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the Darul Qadiriyya located in the Kabara quarters of Kano on Monday.
This venue is significant as it was previously the residence of the late Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, who was a prominent leader of the Qadiriyya sect in Africa and passed away in 1993.
The solemn prayer was officiated by Sheikh Muazzamu Nasiru Kabara, the eldest son of the deceased spiritual leader of the Qadiriyya sect.
A considerable number of attendees participated in the prayer, which commenced right after the Asr salah at the premises of Darul Qadiriyya. The congregation sought Allah's blessings for the deceased, asking for eternal peace upon his soul.
Among those who were notable participants in the funeral rites was Sheikh Musal Qasiyuni Nasiru Kabara, who had publicized the event through a video on his verified Facebook page prior to the gathering.
Ayatollah Khamenei met his demise during a military strike executed by forces from the United States and Israel on Saturday.
The Salatul Ghaib is an Islamic funeral prayer conducted for a deceased Muslim when the individual is not physically present, often applicable when they pass away in areas without any Muslims to perform the rites.
The practice was first instituted by Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for the Negus, the ruler of Abyssinia, known today as Ethiopia.
