In a heartbreaking incident, at least 18 individuals lost their lives following a collision between two commercial vehicles on the Dutsinma–Karofi–Radda Road in Katsina State.
The tragedy unfolded at around 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 31, 2026, when two Golf commercial vehicles, each traveling from opposite directions, lost control and crashed into one another.
Reports indicate that one of the vehicles was transporting wedding guests from Dutsinma, while the other was coming from Kano with its own set of passengers.
The force of the collision was so severe that it caused both vehicles to ignite, leading to the severe burning of three individuals.
The bodies of the deceased were subsequently transported to the General Hospital in Dutsinma.
Among the victims were the groom, his bride, and several friends. One of the groom's friends, Zakari Haradu Aboro, shared that the couple was on their way from Dutsinma to Kafin Soli when the incident occurred.
“Today, I am filled with sorrow as I share this tragic news witnessed firsthand in Katsina State. I was among friends gathered to celebrate a wedding Fatiha in Dutsinma. Just minutes after we departed from the bride’s house, we got an upsetting call. An anonymous voice informed us about a terrible accident that had claimed lives,” he remarked.
“In a state of despair, we soon learned that one of our own, a close friend of the groom, had passed away in the crash. Before we could reach the scene, the word had spread: the vehicle carrying the groom and his friends had collided fatally on the Dutsinma-Kafin Soli road. Sixteen lives, inclusive of the newlyweds, were taken instantly. This is a day filled with profound sadness, and I extend my deepest sympathies to the families and friends affected. May Allah provide them with comfort and strength during this time of immense grief.”
