Pop singer Katy Perry has added her voice to the increasing number of public figures who are criticizing the conduct of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The 41-year-old artist utilized her Instagram platform to motivate her 200 million followers to turn their outrage into tangible efforts, reacting to the recent fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a U.S. Border Patrol officer in Minneapolis.
In her post, she encouraged Americans to "Turn anger into ACTION," and shared slides that provided guidance on contacting their senators. She noted that legislators have a deadline of January 30 to prevent an additional $10 billion funding for ICE, piled on top of the already approved $75 billion.
Additionally, she provided a script for making calls to senators, requesting them to filibuster the forthcoming homeland security appropriations bill, while condemning reports of arrests, assaults, and the use of deadly force by ICE officers.
Although comments were disabled on her post, it has achieved considerable interaction and engagement.
