Kebbi State is stepping up its preparations for the upcoming 2026 Argungu International Fishing Festival, aiming to attract investors and showcase its cultural heritage.
In a statement by the special adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on strategy and communication, Abdullahi Zuru, it was noted that the Kebbi State Investment Promotion Agency is diligently working to ensure the event's success while focusing on bringing in foreign investors and fostering economic development.
Dr. Muhammad Kabir Kamba, the director-general of the agency, stated that overseas investors from Europe and Asia have indicated their interest in attending the festival, thanks to Governor Nasir Idris' recent trips abroad. “We expect a significant number of investors eager to explore the abundant natural resources of the state and discuss potential collaboration with Kebbi’s government and residents,” he stated. To handle the anticipated surge in visitors, the Agency is advising hotel operators to enhance their facilities. “We are collaborating with hotel owners to ensure they elevate their standards to meet global expectations,” Dr. Kamba mentioned.
Scheduled to occur from February 11 to 14, 2026, the festival will highlight the state’s rich cultural heritage, agricultural products, livestock, and solid minerals. The event will also feature a consultative forum designed to connect investors, government agencies, and local businesses to explore partnership possibilities.
The statement further emphasized that Governor Nasir Idris is committed to boosting the socio-economic conditions of the state, having approved legislation for the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy for residential, commercial, and industrial land across Kebbi.
The Festival Organising Committee, led by Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, is putting in every effort to ensure the event's triumph.
After being inactive for several years, the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival was revitalized under Governor Nasir Idris's leadership, and this year's festival is anticipated to be the most successful thus far, featuring additional economic initiatives aimed at job creation and wealth enhancement for Kebbi's citizens.
