Kenan Thompson, well-known for his role on Saturday Night Live, is currently embroiled in a legal battle with his landlord, who alleges that the comedian owes over $34,000 due to a breach of lease terms on a rental property in Los Angeles.
The lawsuit states that Thompson signed a 12-month lease for a three-bedroom residence in September, with the lease expected to commence on October 1. Under this agreement, he was to pay a monthly rental fee of $10,250 for one year, transitioning to a month-to-month lease thereafter.
The landlord contends that Thompson has not fulfilled the lease obligations, claiming he owes a total of $17,425 in unpaid rent for November and December. Furthermore, the lawsuit indicates that a new tenant was only found at a lower rental rate, which leaves Thompson liable for a gap of $15,750 for the duration of the lease.
Additional charges brought against Thompson include an $871 late fee, a $9,594 broker fee, and $1,000 in legal expenses, culminating in an overall demand of $34,390, taking into account Thompson’s security deposit of $10,250.
Sources associated with Thompson, however, contradict these allegations, asserting that the issue stems from a contractual misunderstanding rather than delinquent rent payments. They claim that Thompson never received the keys to the property, and thus, never occupied the home.
As of now, Thompson’s representatives have not issued a public statement regarding the lawsuit.
