Kenneth Okonkwo, an actor turned politician, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to align themselves with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a video shared on his Instagram account Thursday evening, he urged the public to take action.
The former spokesperson for the Labour Party's presidential campaign in 2023 called on citizens to come together and support the ADC in order to liberate the nation from the grip of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okonkwo cautioned that Nigeria is on the brink of further political and economic deterioration unless action is taken. He described the risk of an “impending national collapse” if the citizens fail to unite.
He stated, “I’m urging all Nigerians to join ADC so that we can save our country from collapse, from imminent collapse. We will not be able to endure four more years of unavailability and high fuel costs, insecurity, and corruption. We have become a laughingstock across the globe.”
He encouraged individuals to visit the ADC’s website to register for membership. “Get your registration card, and you’ll receive all rights and privileges within ADC without discrimination. Everyone matters to us in ADC. Thank you very much,” he concluded.
In further remarks, the 57-year-old actor clarified that his decision to join the ADC and its National Working Committee (NWC) stemmed from a genuine commitment to Nigerian citizens and the welfare of the nation.
“My name is Kenneth Okonkwo, a member of ADC's National Working Committee. I embraced this great party because our Constitution emphasizes the importance of promoting the welfare of Nigerians and our national interests,” he stated.
He lamented the struggles faced by the nation due to lack of security and citizens' well-being, asserting that ADC is there to provide much-needed support. Okonkwo included, “I joined ADC as part of the rescue team.”
Previously, in July 2024, it was reported that Okonkwo had departed from the Labour Party, which he joined in 2022. He expressed dissatisfaction with the party's failure to cultivate effective leadership capable of tackling Nigeria's challenges.
He criticized the existing leadership of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deeming them unfit to resolve the nation's dire issues.
He expressed disappointment over the expectations placed on the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to steer the party towards a more impactful direction, which he believes did not materialize. Okonkwo also faulted Obi for not settling the party's internal conflicts following their defeat in the 2023 elections against Bola Tinubu, who is currently the president.
Okonkwo mentioned in a September 2025 interview that he has no personal grievances with Obi and that he is willing to support whoever becomes the ADC’s candidate for the 2027 elections. He stands firm that ADC offers the most promising political pathway for Nigerians as they approach the upcoming elections, expressing optimism that the party would achieve victory, form a new government, and potentially displace Tinubu from office.
