Kiefer Sutherland, a British-Canadian actor known for his roles in various acclaimed films and television series, has been arrested on charges of allegedly assaulting a ride-share driver in Hollywood.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Sutherland allegedly entered a ride-share vehicle, physically attacked the driver, referred to as the victim, and issued criminal threats during the early hours of Monday, January 12. The LAPD reported that the driver did not sustain any injuries from the incident.
As reported by BBC News, Sutherland was subsequently released after posting a bond of $50,000 (£37,000) and is expected to appear in court on February 2.
This is not the first time Sutherland has faced legal issues; he was previously arrested in September 2007 for driving under the influence following a failed sobriety test. He eventually pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and served 48 days in jail.
In a 2022 interview with NME, the actor reflected on his past experiences, stating, "This isn’t like prison, this is kind of a warehouse. In a way, prison is a refined experience compared to county jail."
Sutherland gained prominence as a film actor with notable performances in classics such as The Lost Boys, Young Guns, and Flatliners. He later regained fame on television in the early 2000s with the hit action series 24, for which he received an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Jack Bauer. The show ran from 2001 to 2010 and had a revival in 2014. Additionally, he starred in the political thriller Designated Survivor, which aired from 2016 to 2019.
He is also known as the son of the celebrated actor Donald Sutherland, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 88.
