American model and television personality Kimora Lee Simmons is reportedly engaged in a legal dispute concerning a lavish Beverly Hills property, which is alleged to have been acquired using funds embezzled by her former husband, Tim Leissner.
According to legal filings, the seven-bedroom residence in Beverly Hills was purchased in 2017 with money diverted from Malaysia's state-owned investment fund, 1MDB. The property was subsequently sold to a pair of billionaire real estate developers.
However, documentation indicates that Simmons has continued to occupy the mansion since November 2020 and has not paid any rent for its use.
Reports also suggest that Simmons filmed her reality series within the confines of the mansion, which spans approximately 3.7 acres and is said to house a vast collection of designer handbags.
Leissner, a former banker, has recently surrendered to begin a two-year prison sentence after admitting guilt to conspiracy and money laundering charges stemming from the 1MDB affair.
A court session is scheduled for later this month to address the ownership and occupancy of the contested property.
The unfolding situation has sparked considerable discussion online, with many people debating whether the matter is primarily a legal issue or one with ethical implications tied to the scandal surrounding the home's original acquisition.
