Ibrahim ‘Itele D Icon’ Yekini’s Yoruba fantasy-thriller series,
has set a new record as the first African and Nollywood film to achieve over 100 million views on YouTube.
According to reports from Premium Times, the initial installment of this ongoing series, which will consist of ten parts, was circulated on May 8, 2025.
The series has garnered overwhelming popularity, with the first part accumulating over eight million views, the second surpassing nine million, and the third part capturing more than eight million views as well. Parts four and five each exceeded ten million views, while parts six through nine achieved over eleven million views, and the final installment attracted above nine million views.
The storyline revolves around a family that resorts to employing dark magic inspired by Yoruba traditions to overpower others, leading to dramatic confrontations, especially with a character named Jaweshoro.
Yekini, 46, celebrated this remarkable achievement via his Instagram account, attributing the success to consistent hard work and creativity from the outset. He expressed: “History, record, legacy. Koleoso hits over 100 million total views. Officially, it’s the first Nollywood title and first African film to reach this milestone on YouTube as one thorough narrative.”
He also acknowledged contributing to the glory of Nollywood while expressing pride in his team and fans, emphasizing the dedication that made this triumph possible.
“This victory signifies a win for the Yoruba people and Nigeria, resonating deeply. This is a magical moment; it feels extraordinary and valuable,” Yekini stated.
In addition, fellow actors such as Jumoke Odetola and Muyiwa Ademola congratulated him on this landmark success, with Odetola highlighting its significance for the entire industry. “In moments where people say, ‘I don’t watch Yoruba films,’ Koleoso has defied the odds and created history with 100 million views,” she remarked.
The cast has featured notable actors such as Fatai Odua, Oluwakemi Apesin, Afeez Abiodun, Jimmy Roland, and others as part of this innovative project. The accomplishment has been hailed as a significant cultural achievement for Nigeria and Africa.
