KSI has revealed that he has purchased the former English Football League team Dagenham & Redbridge F.C., announcing a strategic vision to steer the club towards the Premier League.
The YouTuber, boxer, and Britain's Got Talent judge, whose full name is Olajide Olatunji, disclosed the acquisition in a three-minute video shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday afternoon. The video included snippets of him playing as the team in his FIFA streaming series along with clips of Dagenham & Redbridge during matches.
“I’m thrilled to embark on this new adventure,” KSI expressed. “It’s definitely going to be an exciting journey, and I aspire to restore Dagenham and Redbridge (@Dag_RedFC) to its former glory.
“For those of you who are long-time fans (from Race to Division One), this is a full circle moment for me. Join me on this thrilling journey, and I’ll see everyone at Victoria Road this Saturday! I’ll be streaming the experience as well,” he added.
Established in 1992, this East London club holds its home games at Victoria Road. The Daggers were relegated from the National League in the previous season and currently rank 13th in the National League South.
KSI, a dedicated supporter of Arsenal F.C., acknowledged the extraordinary nature of his new role by stating, “It feels surreal, like something out of a dream. The excitement, joy, and happiness I experienced years ago is something I want to bring back and even exceed. I envision the atmosphere being alive and vibrant whenever you come to a game here.”
He further commented, “Playing a video game is one thing, but owning a football club is another challenge entirely. My experience with Race to Division One was a journey with its difficulties, and ultimately, I succeeded.
“With this club, my ambition is to achieve the unimaginable. I strive to lead Dagenham and Redbridge to the Premier League. Although this will take time, my immediate goal is to rise out of this league into the National League. We must enhance the team, make important additions that elevate its performance, and foster the community around it.”
To reassure fans, he remarked, “You all have been loyal supporters much longer than I’ve been involved, and I understand that my becoming an owner might be unsettling for some. However, I am accessible.
“You can tweet me directly, and I will see your messages. Share your frustrations or celebrate victories with me; I am approachable. What other owner do you know who can connect to fans like this? That’s who I am. I’m a fighter; I’ve faced injuries in the ring but always get back up. With Dagenham, I’m here to fight and do everything possible for our success. I’m ready to get started.”
KSI joins a roster of celebrities investing in the lower tiers of football, following Ryan Reynolds’ notable purchase of Wrexham A.F.C. and its subsequent rise through the English football leagues. Reactions to KSI's announcement have been a mix of enthusiasm and skepticism, with some fans humorously suggesting that managing real football may prove more difficult than competing in FIFA Ultimate Team.
With over 50 million social media followers, KSI’s involvement is expected to enhance the club's profile as it seeks to rebuild after relegation and aims for ascension through the league system.
