Arsenal has secured a spot in the Champions League semi-finals after a hard- fought 0-0 draw against Sporting at the Emirates Stadium. This result was enough to give Mikel Arteta’s team a 1-0 aggregate win over the two legs.
The crucial goal that ultimately separated the sides was scored by Kai Havertz late in the first leg in Portugal, proving to be the decisive moment in the tie.
Although Arsenal started with intent, Sporting proved to be the more dangerous side in the opening half. Francisco Trincão and Pedro Gonçalves both posed threats, and a misplaced pass from Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya presented Sporting with another opportunity. The closest Sporting came to scoring was when Geny Catamo hit the post with a volley following a cross from Maxi Araújo.
The home crowd grew increasingly tense as Arsenal defended their slim advantage, particularly given their recent setback in the Premier League against Bournemouth.
Sporting continued their push after the interval, with Araújo missing a significant chance from inside the penalty area. Arsenal nearly found a late breakthrough when substitute Leandro Trossard's header struck the post from a corner.
This achievement marks Arsenal's return to the Champions League semi-finals in consecutive seasons for the first time in their history. Their next challenge will be a semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid for a place in the final.
