Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has expressed his discontent regarding his colleagues' persistent backing for President Bola Tinubu's administration, especially in light of the deteriorating economic conditions in Nigeria.

In a recent video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Remi criticized the administration for the significant rise in fuel prices and its detrimental effects on business and daily life for Nigerians.

He challenged his fellow actors, stating, "I have some colleagues in my industry who are part of a group that claims 'relax, Tinubu is fixing something.' I have seen some of them, including Nino. I hope you’re asking the right questions. I hope you are standing for the correct reasons because I’m feeling overwhelmed."

Remi further expressed his frustration, admitting that discussing politics has become crucial given the current situation, saying, "I used to avoid talking about politics, but now remaining silent feels foolish." He lamented the poor electricity supply, which forces businesses to depend on generators, while fuel costs keep escalating, stressing that staying neutral is no longer an option.

"I bought petrol today for over 1,300 naira. We lack electricity and have been running our generator constantly. Despite living on the island, we receive no preferential treatment. I can only imagine how small businesses manage with rising fuel costs," Remi added.

He raised serious concerns about why Nigeria, despite being one of the largest oil producers, remains vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil prices. He pointed out that transportation fees have also skyrocketed, making it difficult for his staff and many others to afford their commute.

"I find it astonishing that even with our resources, the narratives around fuel pricing and our reliance on a single refinery persist. This country is rich yet grapples with such preventable challenges," he noted, expressing his bewilderment at the situation.

Remi joined a growing cohort of actors, including Wale "Okunnu" Akorede and Kunle Afolayan, who have openly criticized the government's handling of the recent fuel price hikes. Okunnu highlighted how petrol prices surged from N1,240 per litre to N1,340 in just a day, questioning if such changes betray the government's failure or the citizens' responsibility.

Similarly, Afolayan lamented the increased costs of diesel affecting his operations, revealing that his film production facility now spends approximately N11 million on fuel over a period of four to five weeks, sometimes resorting to purchasing fuel on credit due to the financial strain.

This collective outrage from the entertainment sector reflects a rising sentiment among Nigerians seeking solutions to the current economic challenges affecting everyday life.
