The Kwankwasiyya Movement has categorically denied allegations suggesting that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, participated in negotiations with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These assertions followed the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the APC. Reports alleged that negotiations between the APC and Kwankwaso failed due to unreasonable demands made by Kwankwaso, which the party would not accept.
In an official statement released by the Movement’s spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed, the organization labeled these claims as speculative, false, and intentionally misleading.
Sale emphasized that Senator Kwankwaso has never engaged in discussions or negotiations with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or any intermediary regarding a defect from his party to the ruling APC.
"We affirm unequivocally that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has never participated in any negotiations, discussions, or meetings with the APC concerning defection. Such claims are entirely false and completely without foundation," the statement expressed.
The Movement raised concerns over the increasing spread of unverified reports and media discussions suggesting that Kwankwaso had stipulated demands for his defection to the APC. It cautioned that such narratives could mislead the public and tarnish reputations.
It called on journalists and media outlets to adhere to professional standards by utilizing verified facts and credible sources instead of relying on speculation or political gossip.
To clarify further, the Kwankwasiyya Movement stated that the most recent official meeting between Senator Kwankwaso and President Tinubu was in January 2024, emphasizing that no discussions regarding defection or political bargaining occurred at that time.
"Claims that Senator Kwankwaso made excessive demands or exceeded acceptable limits are fabrications based on fictitious negotiations that never took place," they added.
The group explained that Kwankwaso’s interactions with political figures across various parties are normal in a democratic environment and should not be misinterpreted or fabricated into false narratives without substantiated facts.
Additionally, the Movement alleged that the reports are part of a coordinated strategy by certain political figures aimed at undermining Kwankwaso's standing ahead of future political shifts, thereby diminishing his political significance.
Reiterating their leader's political convictions, the Kwankwasiyya Movement described Kwankwaso as a principled and disciplined politician whose strength lies with the masses rather than an alignment with elites.
They urged Nigerians to ignore what they termed misleading reports, affirming that the true circumstances remain unchanged.
"There were no negotiations. No demands have been made. No discussions about defection occurred," reiterated the Movement.
