A bomb explosion took place early on Monday morning in Woro, a locality within Kaiama local government, in Kwara State, raising serious security alarms in the region. The exact number of casualties remains uncertain, with fears that there may be numerous fatalities as officials continue to evaluate the aftermath of the blast.

This incident follows a spate of violent attacks in surrounding areas, which has led to increased scrutiny and action from the Federal Government. In February, a delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima visited Kaiama to express condolences to victims of previous terrorist assaults in Nuku and Woro, while assuring the community of renewed efforts towards peace restoration.

During that visit, Shettima conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to securing the area, announcing the deployment of a battalion of the Nigerian Army alongside immediate assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the state government. Local officials, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed that security resources have already been mobilized under the initiative dubbed Operation Savannah Shield.

The recent explosion has intensified anxieties among residents, casting doubt on the success of recent security measures and highlighting the precarious state of peace in the affected areas.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
