Kylian Mbappé, the talented forward for Real Madrid, is set to have further medical evaluations concerning his injured knee, with no surgical intervention anticipated for the time being.
The 27-year-old has been facing challenges due to an external ligament issue affecting his left knee since late 2025. He was unable to participate in last week’s UEFA Champions League playoff match against SL Benfica and has traveled to Paris for additional tests.
It is expected that Mbappé will not be available for Madrid's upcoming La Liga match against Getafe CF, and his participation in the forthcoming Champions League Round of 16 match against Manchester City remains uncertain.
In a statement issued by his representatives, it was confirmed that he is in Paris accompanied by members of the club's medical staff.
"In cooperation with the club, he is undergoing further assessments on his knee to enhance his recovery plan and prepare for his eventual return," the statement indicated, adding that "no surgical procedures are being considered at this stage."
Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa had previously suggested that it was a collective decision to allow Mbappé the necessary time to recover.
"It was somewhat of a mutual agreement, and we all believe that it is best for him to pause, recuperate, and return at full capacity," Arbeloa stated. "This isn’t just a matter of days; it will require a longer recovery period, but I cannot specify how long. We hope it will not be an extended absence."
Mbappé made the move to Real Madrid on a free transfer in June 2024 after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end. He has had an impressive season, netting 38 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.
